2007 April 04: Gone unfishing

Two unfishermen set off last night at sunset for a long-overdue date with some Tilapia spermanii.

After carefully selecting a suitable spot, first-time unfisherman Wilbur successfully uncatches eight tilapia.

tm

Thrilled with his new-found skill, Wilbur doesn't pay attention to the other wildlife.

With the unfishing done, we lounged at the water's edge enjoying a beer, and discussed the newly-introduced liquor laws, tabled recently and which will probably be in effect by June.

tm

According to this new legislation, approved by the Western Cape Parliament last week, a police officer may now arrest anyone who is drunk, and in a place accessible to the public. The clause ".. and disorderly.." has been removed. Yup. This means, for example, that if you and a friend go out for dinner, and you have two bottles of wine but are otherwise a model citizen, a policeman may walk into the restaurant and arrest you – simply for being both drunk and in a public place. I kid you not. Whilst speculating on the sanity of our nation's law-makers the almost-Full Moon rose behind Stellenbosch Mountain, allowing me to capture this animation you see on the left.

Lunacy, I tell you.
