NSW2012: Mall of the North, Polokwane (2012 August 09)
Soutpansberg Astronomy celebrated their last event for National Science Week 2012 with a long day at the Mall of the North, Polokwane.
"We were at Mall of the North in Polokwane yesterday," Kos Coronaios writes, "and the crowd were so enthusiastic about us been there they wanted us to stay on after sunset. We obliged and gave them lovely views of Saturn through the eyepiece as well as showing them some of the brighter stars and constellations that were visible. Of course the triangular grouping of Mars, Saturn and Spica were shown, with lots of interest in Mars due to Curiosity landing there earlier during the week. All in all the shoppers, movie goers and patrons to the various restaurants in the centre were treated to views of the Moon early in the morning, the solar disk during the day and Saturn in the evening, with loads of material handed out. I found a few Sibo in space books that were gathering dust and these were handed out to enthusiastic kids. 9am to 9pm, we arrived home after 11pm but what a day. Could find myself extremely bored this evening."
nothing more to see. please move along.
