Venus and Jupiter at dawn, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town (July 05)

Despite Cape Town's horrific light pollution, Venus and Jupiter are two brilliant beacons in the pre-dawn sky.

The photos below were taken from the V&A Waterfront this morning and show just how prominent this planetary duo is at the moment.

I like the last picture with M45 in the top left corner and Orion’s sword on the far right. The composition utilizing the thirds rule well with the main subject or subjects (planets and star) placed just left from centre, works rather well (thirds rule again). The green, reds, white and yellows shimmering off the water as well as bright harbor lights running across the picture, balance the composition nicely. Excellent.
