So last week, Prophet Kobus van Rensburg of Spirit Word Ministries had a three-day show at the Bellville Velodrome.
According to an advertising pamphlet for the event, he's healed more than 11,000 cripples and invites you to come and "See the Sick being healed".
On his website [1], he claims to have healed a man from HIV/Aids and cancer; a woman from diabetes, another from breast, lung and spinal cancer, another from colon cancer, another from TB – and that was just in April 2008.
At his shows, people throw away crutches, walkers, and wheel chairs – I can't help but wonder if Profit Kobus has a second-hand medical supplies business on the side.
In 2005, the M-net actuality show Carte Blanche did a segment on Profit Kobus (the transcript is available on the M-Web web-site [2] ). Given that Carte Blanche is really bad at critical investigation, don't expect too much from the transcript though.
If you google him, you'll find lots of Christian websites that are critical of his activities [3], but also a few that are full of praise [4].
What puzzles me is how – legally – van Rensburg & Co. gets away with their nonsense. They are making claims that are clearly false. No amount of prayer or mumbo-jumbo has ever cured cancer, diabetes or TB. There is no evidence to support such a claim, yet he continues to make these claims [1]. Surely this is fraud? There has to be some recourse to the law to stop this man from making false claims in exchange for money!
Van Rensburg is either seriously deluded, incredibly dishonest, or on his way to one or both of these destinations. He abuses the trust of ordinary people (many who are probably desperate – ill, unhappy, or both), gives them lies and false hope, and takes their money.
Of course, his is a lucrative business and like Liberace, he's laughing all the way to the bank. There will probably always be the vulgar who are happy to make a quick buck from others' suffering.
Sies.

If he is really a fraud, debunk him! I am sure he does not guarantee healing, for like he says he is not actually the healer but a tool for God. You will always have people to try to make others a fraud, for they do not want to believe divine healing is actual a reality, because there must be a God and that may not happen! Well, I know it is true, my wife's back was healed from her scrutinizing pain after she was layed hands on.....you are losing out! ;)

Dear anonymous,
I'm happy for your wife.
However, you should not be surprised or disappointed when her condition returns to its "pre-miracle" state.
There is no magic in the real world – just wishful thinking.

A pity the writer feels that way. If you do your research properly, you will find that the people that are healed often come back to the ministry after being to their doctors for confirmation. They then bring the confirmation of healing with them. Try looking a bit deeper before bashing people over the head. You'll get a lot further and people might actually take you seriously.
Reply from Auke Slotegraaf on Monday, 2009 August 03 @00:08.
Dear anonymous,
Your presumptuousness is only exceeded by your arrogance. As to 'being taken seriously by people', no thanks, I don't need the approval of others.
What special insight or information do you have about how thoroughly I do my research? Presumably, you've done your research - so please share the evidence with us. Evidence of miraculous magical powers would be of great interest. Make sure you research "evidence" before responding.
By offering me advice, in the hope that I may "get a lot further", am I to understand that you, too, would like to see profit Kobus van Rensburg exposed for the fraud that he is? I'm quite confused about what it is you want me to get further in, and be taken seriously about.
Eagerly awaiting your reponse,
Auke

I DOUBT IF THESE PEOPLE ARE HEALED ANYWAY. HE MUST PROVIDE SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE TO VALIDATE HIS CLAIMS. EVEN DOCTORS TODAY ARE BRIBED BY MONEY TO WRITE FALSE REPORTS. PEOPLE IN MY MINISTRY WHO CLAIM THEY ARE HEALED THROUGH LAYING OF HANDS I ADVISE THEM TO GO TO THEIR DOCTORS FOR VERIFICATION ONE LADY CLAIMED SHE WAS HEALED OF HIV/AIDS, HOWEVER THE SECOND TEST WAS POSITIVE. I TOLD HER TO GO TO COUNSELLING AND CHECK HER VIRAL LOAD. THEY SHOULD DO THE SAME

You must have been very sick to have been miraculously cured so many times.
However, the problem here is still simply one of evidence. If so-called miracle cures take place all around us at the drop of the hat, why do we still need hospitals, medical treatment and clinics? Why has there never been a single example of such a miracle performed in a convincing setting? It's always hear-say, anecdotal, mistaken, or simply a lie: a lie that is clearly making Profit van Rensburg very wealthy.
But maybe there is a miracle here: Van Rensburg's pockets miraculously filling with other people's hard-earned money.
People like him make me wish there was a hell ;-)

Jaco,
Thanks for your kind words; I am sure they are sincere and that you are a good person.
As for God and the supernatural, well, that's just a fairy tale. There is absolutely no compelling evidence that either exist, except as constructs of the human mind. Hands that help, as they say, are better than hands that pray.
I'm curious, what do you make of the fact that, throughout the thousands of years of recorded history all over our planet, there have been Gods of some kind or another, and that the believers in these Gods make essentially the same claims about their Gods abilities and powers? And that each of these believers testify to the power and significance of God in their lives?

Hi Auke,
Sorry for taking so long to reply, i just thought i'd stop by and see if there's a reply. i have no idea what miracles other gods do according to their followers but i have experieced a lot of awesome stuff. I just want to say that the people need to stop trying to convert you. a human will not do anything he doesn't want to. He will do exactly the opposite of the things people tell him. Don't be bothered with turn or burn or any crap like that, the worst thing to do is to say you believe because your afraid of god. You should accept Jesus through love and not fear. And how can you not fear God when armaggedon is coming? Because armaggedon is not coming, all prohecies are forfilled. I totally disagree with most of the christian religious people. So i was a unbeliever once and did not except anything but the truth and i found the anwsers. There's a lot of flaws in the stories the church "spins" the poor people every sunday. I hope you will also see the truth one day and it will set you free. But it's not something you should do. As the bible says, He (God) is the author and the finisher of your faith. Hope i'll meet you in the future. Being hungry and sceptic is always good. People believe in Julius ceasar but won't believe in Jesus. I wouldn't believe in Julius Ceasar if everybody said he took the world's sins on him. Until he showed me of course. Bless you my friend. Really. Bless you!
Reply from Auke on Saturday, 2010 February 06 @12:51.
Dear Jaco,
Like you, I am also sceptical about 'the stories the church spins' every Sunday. Unlike you, I simply go one church further. My original question still stands.

P.S. About your Julius Caesar/Jesus example: there is ample evidence that Julius Caesar existed. There is zero evidence that Jesus was a supernatural son of a god. If, however, you have evidence of the latter, please share.

Hi Auke,
I know you are a very smart man, i can pick that up just looking at the content of this website. Pretty obvious. Naturally you do not believe anything your told. I respect that. I also did not believe and i have been seeing more and more and more of God's miracles. That is because i put myself out there and wanted God to show me. Just open up a little, don't be afraid. Taste and see that the lord is good. God wants to bless you, just say "yes, i accept it". I just feel so drawn to you because you are actually so hungry for the truth. I know you think it's all a lie, but your still hungry for the truth or your perception of truth. He took your sins and sickness on the cross so you can have life in abundance. What has caused this in your life, to live in disbelief?, why can't you see God for who he really is. Do you know the commandments of Moses and does it play around and around in your head. It's very in depth but that will cause this. Very time the law is read it will put a veil on the hearts and minds of the people. Don't let that take you away from God. Your sins have been forgiven and you are blameless before God. Don't have anymore sin conciousness. Just say yes lord bless me and come live in me. You will love the feeling of being a superhero on earth and to reign like a king. But then you will feel the need to go out and bless others with god's love and healing. Cheers my friend, grace be multiplied unto you.

Hi Auke, National Geo had a guy in India investigating and exposing all the fakers there, fakers who didn’t hesitate to take the last penny from poor people to “heal" them!
Wouldn’t it be a great idea to have an investigator like that in South Africa ;-)
Test cancer, diabetes, HIV candidates beforehand and afterwards and see for them selves!
It was also interesting for me to find out that Christianity wouldn’t have become as large a group, as their target market were the poor and helpless, other religions (if I remember correct) Judaism were more for the up market and didn’t show the same growth!
Dawid and Anonymous, why is it, if you guys watch a Science fictions movie, you decide it is crap but if you watch a Dvd on healers it is absolutely believable???
How come you watch a Magician, you know it is only eye blind, but if you watch a healer, it is “god all mighty’s" work???

It would indeed be good if an expose like that could be done in South Africa. Just as long as it isn't done by Carte Blanche - their track record of investigating paranomal phenomena is pathetic.

It is very easy to just criticise things you do not understand. I was personally diagnosed with congestive heart failure with a left ventrical ejection fraction of 24% and an enlarged heart that was effectively useless on one side. The main artery into my heart 100% sealed off. The only hope according to the doctors was a heart transplant. 4 yrs ago I attended a meeting in Stilfontein. Two weeks later the doctor took me off all medication and could find no deformity or irregularity in my heart. I thank God every day for healing me and allowing me to look after my family. If you don't believe in miracles don't worry you will never receive one. By the way God's miracle in my life cost me nothing other than the travelling costs and the breath to thank Him for His grace and love.
Reply from Auke Slotegraaf on Monday, 2009 September 29 @08:30.
Willem,
Thank you for your comment. I agree with you that it is very easy to be critical out of ignorance.
It is even easier to be naive and gullible out of ignorance. It is a feature of the human mind that, despite all the facts not being available, conclusions are made about the truth of a matter. It is this natural inclination to premature judgment that a scientific training helps fend off. Without such a self-correcting evidence-based approach we wouldn't even know about left ventrical ejection fractions or the existence of neutrinos. There's a lot more going on in the world than meets the eye.
It's excellent that you didn't give Profit van Rensburg any money; sadly, so many others have been duped into filling his coffers.
May your good health continue,

I had a problem at first with watching Kobus healing. I live in America and we have false teachings here all the time. I must say that Mr. Van Rensberg has gift at delivering the WORD. It is one we don't hear in our churches. He is inspiring and encouraging and it comes from "The Holy Spirit". Kobus is a man of God's Love and really helps us see and understand what is being said. You shouldn't be determined to disprove his healing power. I once heard an Atheist say "you really have to hate someone to not share your faith with that person." Brother I wish you the best in your plight. I have no intention in changing your view and you should not worry about Kobus spreading the word and love of God.

Indeed, there are false teachings in South Africa, too! I'm sure profit van Rensburg is inspiring and encouraging to some - but his claims of healing are patently superstitious nonsense, and coercing people into giving him their hard-earned money for nothing more than a feel-good moment is disgusting.
Thanks for your well-wishes, but I'm not in any particular plight at the moment.

Auke, obvious you are not a Christian, I am not saying that there are people who cannot make mistakes, but the healing through Jesus Christ is not imagination. It does happen that some might get sick again, sure, it happens if we do not walk in Christ. Many people thinks we are powerful, meanwhile something as small as a virus can force us down to the ground. My wife's back was healed, not through Kobus(I have never been to him) but Jesus. So it really works.....and lucifer gets his butt kicked all the time through using only the name of jesus Christ! For we are victorious over satan... All the best!
Reply from Auke Slotegraaf on Monday, 2009 September 29 @08:30.
Anonymous,
Indeed, I'm not a Christian (although I did grow up and continue to live in a world super-saturated with the mindset).
And indeed, a tiny virus can knock us out, and simply believing nonsense can make us pretty silly, too.
I read that you suggest that getting sick again after being miraculously healed is because of the sick person's lack of faith. Now isn't that a convenient explanation for the failure of faith healing!
So you're saying that God made us sick, and only cures us for as long as we believe in His grace? That's... lovely! Why would you even bother with a God like that?
Try this: your medical doctor didn't make you sick, you don't have to worship your doctor and you don't have to believe in medicince - but it works anyway!
As for Lucifer getting his butt kicked with Power-Word: JESUS: well, that's positively medieval.
Time to go burn a witch,

A real miracle (that everybody would have to agree on) would be the growing back of an amputated leg or arm. Strangely, this miracle never happens, I wonder why? Maybe god does not like cripples?
Reply from Auke Slotegraaf on Wednesday, 2009 September 30 @15:37.
Ernst,
Spot on! As you say, just one documented example of the faith healing of an amputated limb would win millions of converts to whatever god pulled it off. The cure, I mean, not the limb.
Any of the True Believers out there, who so badly want to defend Profit van Rensburg, want to explain:
Posted by Richard on Sunday, 2009 October 04 @00:53
I would expect magicians like Kobus to thrive in a country where witch doctors are accorded the same status under the law as medical school graduates. There is an over-abundance of superstitious nonsense in this country.
What I am interested in Auke, is your view on engaging these good Christian soldiers you encounter, like those who comment on your blog. I used to be pro discussion and try to engage them with rational argument, but it seems to me that this is pretty futile. Do you think it's worth making the effort? It seems so much easier to just mock them…
Reply from Auke Slotegraaf on Wednesday, 2009 October 07 @11:55.
Richard,
Everyone we meet is fighting some or other battle, so mocking them is bad.
Now some of them are soldiers, as you say, so turning the other cheek is often an excuse for apathy.
It may not be possible to "save" the converted; the religious imperative can be deeply ingrained. But it may be possible to immunize others and prevent religious rubbish taking root in the brain. Jesus is rather like foot fungus: prevention is better than cure.
So I reason that if there is vocal opposition to the proponents of religious bunk, someone in the audience may go, "Hey, yeah, that make's sense, let's rather go have pizza with friends than give our money to God".
At least that's what I tell myself.
Anyone for pizza?

However, Kobus van Rensburg is still a fraud because he claims to have magical healing powers that he does not actually have.
Until he or anyone provides proof (the kind that will stand up in a court of law or under evidence-based scrutiny) that prayers have healing power, he remains a fraud.
Anyone can make a claim. But not everybody can make money out of those claims. That is van Rensburg's true gift.

What made me lose faith in faith are the inconsistencies. Why does God (via Profit v R ) not heal amputees? Yet numerous times God promises:
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. [Matthew 21:21]
If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. [John 14:14]
Ask, and it will be given you. [Matthew 7:7]
Nothing will be impossible to you. [Matthew 17:20]
Believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. [Mark 11:24]
The question, therefore, is simple: Are Jesus' statements in the Bible true or false?
Why is it that prayers are only said for those afflictions that medical science can cure or that can go into spontaneous remission?
Go to
http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/god1.htm
and read it all. Refute it then. Also go to
'Some Mistakes of Moses' (@ Internet Archive)
and refute what Robert Ingersoll wrote more than 130 years ago about the story of Moses.
The human being is a thinking being. The only one who can think of the future and 99% cannot accept that life ends at death. For them there HAS to be life after death. Surely it CANNOT be otherwise. I WANT to see my loved ones again. Next to the sex drive religion probably is the strongest yearning in human beings. Facts and objective reality are irrelevant to believers.
The point is you do not argue someone out of something he was not argued into ( like religion). Except for a few like me with an insatiable curiosity who asked and delved deep into questions about the origin of the Bible, the age of the earth, what the laws of physics teach us, and many other things. I was argued out of it by solid logic. By objective reality.

Reply from Chris on Tuesday, 2009 November 24 @08:45.
Manie, I agree. People appear to be built with a powerful need to believe, which is hard to overcome. That makes us all to an extent vulnerable to indoctrination, especially in the early formative years.
If religion makes people happy, one might well ask, "Then what's the harm?. They are free to believe whatever they wish." And I wish it were true! The trouble starts when fervent believers (in whatever) decide that it is their duty to interfere with the lives of others - because they have been taught that theirs is the only "true" way to think. Then they go on crusades, actual or metaphorical. In the extreme, they will happily kill people who they don't even know - purely on the assumption that the victims' thoughts are not aligned with what they "know to be right". This is a sickening aspect of the human condition.
The more physically timid among them will take to the Internet in a fury of righteous indignation, engaging in a war of words with people who prefer logic and reason over belief and indoctrination. In general these mighty warriors - doubtless already legends in their own minds - will relentlessly seek out sites like this to attack, where they are merely met with rebuttal.
While rebuttal is a reasonable response, I seriously doubt that pointing out inconsistencies will have any effect on the fervid as they appear to have abdicated responsibility for their own thought processes. Yet I suppose one can hope that at least a few will actually pause for thought.
It is my assumption (based on the fact that I do not know anyone who would behave differently) that people on this side of the argument generally could not be bothered to seek out religious sites for counterattack. Which highlights a fundamental difference in philosophy.
Reply from Auke on Tuesday, 2009 November 24 @16:43.
Chris,
If the 'mighty warriors' are the only voices heard, then alternate views (even though they may be true) will never come to light.
It's probably not an optimal approach, but it's worth the effort anyway, IMO.

According to an advertising pamphlet for the event, he's healed more than 11,000 cripples and invites you to come and "See the Sick being healed".
My goodness, that's a lot of cripples. By comparison, the recent Discovery 702 Walk the Talk event managed a paltry 5,135 entrants for the 15km leg. Some of the entrants, by the way, were on crutches.
Doubtless all of those miraculously-healed ex-cripples would be so grateful for their new-found wellbeing, that they could organise a fund-raising charity walking event to benefit the less fortunate who are still ailing. All that they would need to do, to be eligible for participation in the event, would be to submit a letter from their medical practitioner supporting their contention. I am sure the good people of South Africa would be very generous in sponsoring them for such a good cause.
I propose that as a show of good faith, the Profit himself should organise this. It would be much more interesting and impressive for prospective converts than watching some supposed cripple being supposedly healed in a delirious pantomime.
Failing a show of at least, say 2,500 entrants (not a % large turn-out; surely they can do better than the 702 crowd), then the Advertising Standards Authority should take the Profit to court for misrepresentation, SARS should investigate his financial transactions and the SAPS should have him up on charges for organised crime relating to fraud on a grand scale.
Come on Kobus, you can do it! You certainly put your mouth where the money is, now let's see you put your money where your mouth is.

I have often wished I could simply ignore the whole question of religion and all the misrepresentations and hysterical claims that go with it (Profit and Angus's "Mighty Idiots Movement" are just some of the more obvious current scams).
The root of the problem lies in the fact that religion uses secular institutions like schools, pre-schools and play-groups to get to children at a very early age. Thereafter factors like peer pressure and the innate human herd instinct do the rest of the damage.
Adults can, if they are really motivated, distance themselves and engage in a motivated defence of their points of view, but children and especially adolescents, are emotionally ill-equipped to deal with isolation, ridicule, and victimization by their peers or adults. The majority of these children therefore become followers and are easy targets for the likes of Profit and other prescriptive, main stream religious activities.
We are fighting a losing battle unless we can prevent the exposure of impressionable children to the insidious influences of religious indoctrination and, until that happens, we will have the dubious pleasure of watching our fellow humans following the likes of Profit and Angus and, to all intents and purposes, actually acting as if they enjoy being taken for a ride.

P.S. I couldn't confirm your algebra because 'Jesus' is an undeclared variable.

Dear Jesus Fan,
lots of women fall flat on their backs when touched by a man and many of them say that they then experience "the most awsome feeling ever". So far everything seems to be perfectly normal, so what is all the fuss about.
This Profit fellow seems quite normal except for his excessive superstitious hangups.

Dear Kobus,
Thank you for your good wishes and fire-safety advice. I'm sorry to learn that your keyboard malfunctions from time to time; that Caps Lock key can be a bitch when it makes you look like a fucking idiot.
Warmest regards,
Auke
P.S. "Turn or burn brother" - Jesus Christ, Kobus, that's original! What are you? 14?

There is only one unforgivable sin in the Bible and that is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I have been to Spirit Word Ministries church on a few occasions and the Holy Spirit is moving in a mighty way. I have seen miracles with my own eyes - people getting up out of wheel chairs etc. My mom-in-law had diabetes and was scheduled to have her leg amputated from the knee down. Thank God she was turned away at the door of the operating theatre, Prophet Kobus layed hands on her and prayed for her and her toe is healed, her diabetes is gone, she is totally healed and seems to be 20 years younger. There is no reason to doubt the move of God and the annointing on Kobus and Annelise Van Rensburg.

Dear Debbie,
The Holy Spirit may or may not be moving in mighty ways, but you can be certain that large amounts of money are moving mightily around Profit Kobu$$$.
Now, *that's* a God-damn miracle! I have to work hard to earn a living; Profit Kobu$ gets it for doing nothing of any lasting value whatsoever.
Oh, and since the Bible is a fairy tale, here's a double-blaspheme for that ol' Holy Spirit: Pfffftttt!!! Pfffftttt!!!
Sincere wishes that your mother-in-law recovers,
Auke

Dear Debbie,
I am overjoyed on your behalf and on your mothers.
How long ago did this "healing" take place? If I were you I would check to see how what the shelf life of the "cure" the miracle man sold you is, because these cures have a way of running out of steam. Their failure is then attributed to a decline in faith of the parties involved or to the fact that the big Medicine Man had other plans which he was not going to be communicative about.
For your sake, and your mothers, I hope the "cure" lasts but I would make sure her medical aid contributions were paid regularily if I were you.

Debbie,
I have said what I say below in this forum before but I suppose one can never say it enough.
Can Profit make an amputee's limb grow spontaneously through prayer? Can he make a Thalidomide child's stunted limbs grow into fully functional limbs? If he is "annointed" and believes in the following :
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. [Matthew 21:21]
If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. [John 14:14]
Ask, and it will be given you. [Matthew 7:7]
Nothing will be impossible to you. [Matthew 17:20]
Believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. [Mark 11:24]
then SURELY he can do it! Can you give me one instance where any prayer has restored an amputated limb? Does God hate amputees or what? Why does Profit only "heal" afflictions that the medical fraternity can cure? Or that can go into spontaneous remission? Why do they have crutches and wheelchairs at the entrance of the building? Why do they ask people when they arrive, very surreptitiously, about aches and pains and if someone talks of a painful back or legs ( yet they are fully mobile) they are placed in a wheelchair or given crutches? They are wheeled to the front and when people are called forward these "cripples" are pushed to the Holy One who asks what their afflictions are. He then prays for the person to “GET UP AND WALK!" and MIRACLE OF MIRACLES, THEY GET UP AND WALK! Never had any problem with their mobility in the first place!
Profit and his ilk are charlatans, crooks and deceivers and will continue to do it because people WANT to be deceived.
Do yourself a favour and read "The Faith Healers" by James Randi for a fascinating expose of these charlatans. The faith healers who were exposed as crooks went underground for a few years, resurfaced and are scamming their way to riches again. People WANT to be deceived.

Are you not tired of being an unbeliever? Jesus loves you and has all the power to help in your physical, emotional and spiritual challenges. One thing is sure whether you believe or not that God is and he rewards every act of faith. Look into yourself something cries and nothing can satisfy it but the God you have been pushing far for long. Jesus loves you. Iam happy to know that you are making it right with him now

Dear jokthan,
I'm tempted to ask if you're not tired of being gullible, but I won't do that.
I have looked into myself and indeed there is something unsatiable crying inside me, but that's just my desire for more Lindt.

Thank you Jesus for healing the prophet !!! I had an ulcer 5 years ago, I had it for 2 years, I was constand in pain, and was healed, going to one of his meetings he prayed over hankies, and on my way home I put it on my stomack and the pain left me, I actually felt the pain go through my mouth as I breathed out...sounds too good to be true uh ? Well it did happen, and I do not have try to impress anybody or put pressure on anybody to believe this...Jesus healed me through the prophet, and I am glad. If anyone likes to be in pain, go ahead, like it...as for me, I want to be in good health, good wealth, in the 'Place called There', I want to be called Son of God, I love being called a King, a Priest....Thank you Jesus for Prophet Kobus and his wonderful family who helped me through many struggles, and thank you Lord that I can hear the Word, and not a bunch of religion that drove me away from churh, for the world had much more to offer before I started to go to Spiritword Ministries. Thank you Prophet van Rensburg. Me and my family, truly, truly, deeply love you and your family and the ministry. And no, I do not give millions to the church so that he can buy cars, I give my tiths and offerings, for God says I must do it. And I can afford to buy pretty stuff, I can use nice perfume, I can fly to South Africa, I can help people in need, I can buy beautiful shoes...etc etc....because the Prophet showed us in the Word of God that to prosper, you must give....AMEN !! GO FOR IT, SPIRITWORD TEAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm. Lettie, if as you claim "the world had much more to offer before I started to go to Spiritword Ministries", what possessed you to go there? However, it seems that in the spirit of the old saying, "A fool and his money are soon parted", you are doing your best to keep the economy liquid. Go for it!

Dear joey,
What do you understand?
Reply from Edward on Sunday, 2010 February 21 @08:35.
Dear Joey,
You and the Pro$it Kobu$ could make a fortune marketing those hankies or are they only tuned to your "spiritual resonance"?
If you get another ulcer can you use them again or does Kobu$ have to recharge them - at a $mall fee!
I am also curious about the choice of vehicle for the cure. Why a hanky? Why not simply do it right there on the spot? Does the hanky have to be a particular make, have a specific country of origin, be made of a particular fibre?
Sorry Joey, despite all your protestations to the contrary, I do not accept this particular bit of hanky-panky.

Healing can happen spontaneously, or because of a firm belief - in oneself, in a god, or just in life. I have seen this happen. I believe it is part of our humanness - healing is part of the normal functioning of the body! It is also usual for people to have a desire to be ritualistic, religious and to have a sense of the mysterious and the magical in life. What is hugely disgusting is when this simple faith of people is used for gain by self-styled 'prophets'. That healed (or fake-healed) human body IS going to die, sooner or later.

Ya got it, Izzi-baby!
Reply from anonymous on Thursday, 2010 February 25 @07:55.
Indeed Izzi, good health is simply the slowest rate at which one can die. And remissions are common with many ailments... so are relapses.

Apparently we have reached an economic stage where religion and faithfulness is confined to those of the lower classes. Often i find, that the tools used by "PROFITS", tend to appeal to ones thirst for prosperity. "Come receive you blessing". Why is this blessing always of financial Bearing. I feel that the psychology behind being healed, is indeed faith. It is a persons choice to be healed, however they attribute it to a higher power. Mind over matter. The ambience set by the music, lighting, soft words of the PROFIT, and the persons subconcious expectations all add to the chances of being slain by the spirit. Arguing with believers seems to go nowhere. I think that we should move away from the archaic form of social control. The bible has become obsolete, and profits themselves realise this, so they opt to bend the word to suit modern needs. Do the believers find this acceptable? or is the bible unchanging?

Hi.
You sound really jealous about the money offerings received by prophet v Rensburg? Do you realise that the money churches receive is out of free will (unlike doctors and medical institutions who milks you for every cent and you still sit with the bad news). People give because they want to and it makes them feel good. Maybe you should try giving a little to some organisation which you believe in. (And maybe you should become a doctor) Ok, im joking with you.
Peace bro!
Reply from Auke on Tuesday, 2010 March 09 @12:41.
Noel,
Good joke.
However, 'out of free will' is not the issue here at all.
If I lie to you and deceive you, and you react 'out of free will' on that false information – would you say that's OK?
Peace, bro.
