Comet C/2012 F6 Lemmon is back! It can be spotted in the morning sky, visible in the east shortly before sunrise. For the next week or so, the comet will share the dawn with Mercury. The little planet shines brightly at around magnitude zero, while the comet is around 6th magnitude.

Update (2012.02.21): Images of the asteroid from Greg Roberts in Cape Town!
Asteroid 2012 DA14 zips past Earth and through the southern skies on the evening of February 15. A steady pair of binoculars, a watch, and a star chart are all you need to see this cosmic bullet, lickety-splitting it 28,000 km/h past our planet.

The time has come to bid farewell to Comet C/2011 L4 (PanSTARRS), at least from our southern hemisphere vantage point. Now, keep your browser aimed steadily at spaceweather.com for images from stargazers on the other side of the planet. Meanwhile, Comet Lemmon can still be enjoyed.
