2007 January 20. Seen from the southern Cape, the slender crescent Moon occulted Venus on Saturday evening. Carol's image shows Lion's Head in the centre, the slopes of Table Mountain on the left, and the celestial pair on the right.
Carol writes: "I couldn't photograph the disappearance of Venus, but watched it through the telescope. The reappearance was like something out of a fairytale. Of course my camera just about overheated as I snapped off images. This morning I felt like a teenager who's been at a rave the whole night. We certainly can't complain about lack of excitement the past few evenings!"
Above is my pic of how "the lion got a twinkle in its tail". Unfortunately, light and air pollution is also clearly visible.
