2007 March 03 @ 18:45 SAST. The almost-Full Moon, still some six hours before total eclipse, appears red low in the East soon after having risen. Oleg and his family were walking in Delta park, watching the lightning storm above Johannesburg, as the Moon rose above Sandton City.

2007 March 03 @ 23:56 SAST. At 23:30 the Moon entered the umbra. The image above, taken 26 minutes later, shows the south-west quadrant deep in shadow. The small dark mark near the lunar north pole (bottom part of image) is a bat, caught in transit. Cybershot DSC-P71, 1/80th sec @ ISO 100, afocal on a TAL-100 refractor with 25mm TAL eyepiece.
