ASSA Deep Sky Observing Section

The Section exists to encourage, promote and develop the pleasureable pursuit of deep sky observing.

All interested individuals are welcome to contribute to the Section. A telescope is not needed to participate. A great deal of observing can be done with the naked eye or binoculars. Photography is also encouraged.

The Society, on behalf of the Section, issues Observing Certificates to acknowledge worthwhile contributions to the Section's work.

The latest deep sky observing logs can be found on the "Deep Sky Observations" page.

Non-stellar objects in old star catalogues (update)

Update on the 2004 article. I'd like to thank Philipp Teutsch for examining the potential objects I came across; his comments and analysis greatly informed my efforts to see if, just perhaps, those dedicated (and to risk a pun, focussed) astrometrists of a century and a half ago had netted a deep sky object or two.
